Hypnosis Myths

Due mainly to the reputation of stage hypnosis on tv or in pubs and clubs there are many myths and misunderstandings about what hypnosis actually is. Often in stage hypnosis the word “sleep” is used and the person being hypnotised appears to fall into some kind of coma or deep sleep.

What is Hypnosis ?
Hypnosis is a trance or altered state of consciousness
A perfectly natural phenomenon that occurs regularly in our daily lives and here I give three examples that most people can relate to.

1. Day dreaming
2. Being totally absorbed whilst watching a film, a soap, a documentary or any programme that captures our interest.
3. Having driven a vehicle and then arriving at our destination and realising that we do not remember driving the last few miles.

Whilst it is a perfectly natural phenomenon available to everyone it is also a very powerful tool that can be used to greatly enhance our natural abilities to cope or perform.

Typical uses of hypnosis :-

* Anger management
* Panic attacks
* Anxiety
* Performance issues, meetings etc
* Confidence issues
* Stress
* Exam nerves
* Trouble sleeping
* Fears and phobias
* Unable to relax
* Help with giving up smoking
* Weight and diet issues

Common Worries and Myths
* Can I be made to say things about myself that I don’t want to ?
* Is it possible that I might find out something horrible about myself that I didn’t know ?
* Can I be controlled in any way by the hypnotist ?
* Can I get stuck in hypnosis ?
* Is hypnosis dangerous ?

The answer to all the above fears and concerns about hypnosis in each case is a resounding NO.
